EDTC 6320: Instructional Technology
Cooperative Project
Project Description: EDTC 6320 – Cooperative Project.
For this project, we were asked to collaboratively develop an instructional unit based on an emerging technology that would enhance a classroom. We decided to use the Web 2.0 application known as, PBworks wiki space. Our target audience for this instructional unit is high students and teachers. As a group we conducted extensive research over our topic using peer-reviewed articles, tutorial videos, etc. to complete this project. Our instructional wiki is organized using the design model known as the ADDIE model.
Responsibilities Met:
Responsibility 3: Development, Utilization and Management. The candidate will develop, utilize and manage a variety of media and instructional technologies to deliver instruction to students.
Performance Indicators |
Justification |
3.1 Demonstrates ability to develop instruction using a minimum of three different medias.
3.1 As a requirement for class, we used Microsoft Office PowerPoint software to create a storyboard to help us create our multi-media presentation. We added text, images, and notes for narration. Once completed we requested feedback from our partners to assist us in making any revisions. Using our storyboard we created a video using the program Camtasia. This program allowed us to turn a regular PowerPoint presentation into a movie with narration, music, and transitions including panning and zooming. We also created a team wiki using a free Web 2.0 tool PBWorks.com to house our research, videos, and teacher wikis on the effectiveness of using a class wiki using the instructional design model ADDIE model.
3.2 Applies research-based rationale for the selection and utilization of technologies for learning. |
3.2 Before our group chose our group topic classroom wikis, we researched the effectiveness of classroom wikis using several academic journals. To assist us in evaluating classroom wikis, we used the instructional design model known as the ADDIE model as a guide. We looked for articles for the different steps in the ADDIE Model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Resource Page |
3.3 Demonstrates ability to manage projects and evaluate progress and improvement.
3.3 Cooperative Project was housed in a team wiki. In the team wiki we housed all our research on the effectiveness of classroom wikis. Each team member was assigned a part of the ADDIE model to research and write. As a group we gave each other feedback to evaluate our storyboards for our Multi-media video to make revisions and improve our presentation. Our instructor also provided us with a course calendar with activities and due dates. We constantly referred to the course calendar to make sure each part of our project was completed in a timely manner and before the due date.
Responsibility 4: Evaluation. The candidate uses incisive and relevant assessment and evaluation techniques (e.g., product or project which uses formative and/or summative evaluations). Candidate demonstrates the ability to evaluate quality of instructional materials and instructional systems using appropriate methodologies. Candidate also demonstrates the ability to use formative and summative assessment methodologies to ascertain the effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional goals.
Performance Indicators |
Justification |
4.2 Demonstrates ability to use summative strategies to evaluate the quality of instruction.
4.2 Throughout the course, we gave constructive feedback to our fellow group members as well as other groups. This feedback was taken under consideration of the person in order to make modifications if needed. We followed a template to provide feedback to on another.
4.3 Demonstrates ability to select a variety of appropriate assessment instruments and use those instruments to assess effectiveness of instruction in meeting instructional objectives. |
4.3 In this project we performed one-to-one and small group evaluations with other teachers to determine if our instruction was effective in creating teacher wikis. With the feed back provided, we revised our project in order to enhance and make it more effective. The learner was assessed using a rubric, which also provided us with feedback on the effectiveness of our project.
Responsibility 5: Research. The candidate collects, evaluates, and synthesizes research from a variety of appropriate sources in order to support decision-making in design, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional systems. |
Performance Indicators |
Justification |
5.1 Demonstrates ability to conduct comprehensive literature review and provide summation of a relevant topic in instructional technology.
5.1 In our cooperative group project, we researched several academic journals to review the effectiveness of using a wiki for classroom instruction. We used the ADDIE model to organize our ideas and create a overview of what a wiki page is, how it is made, and can be used. We each created our own wiki page for our classroom to provide examples of how a wiki can be implemented in a classroom. Resource Page
5.2 Uses research in instructional technology to justify academic decisions in course work projects and professional work-related responsibilities.
5.2 The objective of our project was to research the effectiveness of using a wiki in the classroom. We used credible resources such as peer reviewed academic journals to gather information about the use of wikis in the classroom. We assigned ourselves different parts of the ADDIE model to research and write about in our project. We collaborated on different methods of using a wiki in the classroom in order to build our own wikis. |
5.3 Uses research to justify selections of instructional strategies. |
5.3 As a group, we researched different examples of how wiki pages are used in the classroom. Different articles provided input into our own wiki pages we created to implement in our classrooms. It also allowed us to organize our wiki to make it user friendly for those using our wikis. One feature that most of the wikis we viewed through out research was a navigation bar. We decided to implement this feature into our wiki pages to make it easier for the user to explore a wiki space. Using a navigation bar also organized our wiki space so the users knew exactly where to find what they were looking for. We researched and provided different tutorial videos on how teachers implement wikis in their classrooms.
Responsibility 6: Collaboration. The candidate demonstrates the ability to form electronic teams in order to identify and solve problems and opportunities in the field of instructional technology. The candidate demonstrates effective team building skills in a distributed collaboration environment, and demonstrates how candidate's own students or colleagues can take advantage of electronic collaboration for distributed team building.
Performance Indicators |
Justification |
6.1 Demonstrates the ability to team electronically with professionals to identify instructional problems or opportunities and devise appropriate solutions.
6.1 As a group, we decided to meet via Collaborate instead of meeting in person. We discussed what parts of the ADDIE model we would research and what kind of wikis we would create for our classrooms. We used emails and our wikipage to stay in communication to ask and answer questions over our project.
6.2 Identifies trends in distributed instruction. |
6.2 Popular trends to distribute instruction throughout this course were through the use of Blackboard and Collaborate. We attended class and had discussions over several topics effecting teachers in their classrooms, instructional design models, and readings in out textbook. As a group, we used a wiki page to house our project to discuss, edit, and create our final product. We also showed how a wiki can be used in a classroom as another form of instructing students. |
6.3 Demonstrates effective utilization of tools necessary to implement distributed instruction.
6.3 As a group, we were able to use a wiki to its fullest. As a group we were able to collaborate and share ideas about our project. We were also able to keep track of everyone's work and contributions so that everyone could keep up with deadlines and do their fair share of the project. We were able to add and edit text for our research of the ADDIE model and upload images and videos to show how to develop and implement a wiki for a classroom. |
Modifications Made
Modifications were limited for the reason being this was a collaborative group project. As a group we came to a consensus on what feedback we were going to use to make modifications. Since our project was on a wiki page, only the final product is available to view.
